Construction kicked off in early February clearing 6+ acres of scrub forest. Followed by major earthwork operations digging in beautifully sandy soils. By the beginning of March, the site is levelled and the first of two detention basins is doing it’s job.
BETHEL POLICE FACILITY SUBMITTED FOR APPROVALS
Plans for the New Bethel Police Facility were submitted this week for P&Z approval. A public hearing will be scheduled for February with approval expected at the end of the month. Bidding and construction will follow immediately. See the Bethel page for details about the project.

Paving day at Klingberg Family Centers
It has been 8 weeks since the start of construction and paving day is finally here. Major earthwork operations took a small 34 car overflow parking lot and we created a brand new 109 space parking lot to serve the planned conference center at Klingberg's New Britain campus.

July 29th and the main parking lot and new bus loop are starting to take shape. With three other contractors on site - roofing, boiler and ceiling projects - coordination among all 4 contractors has been key to keeping this major renovation moving forward.

At last night's Building Committee site visit, the stockpiles of material are enormous, nearly hiding the school. Fourteen days in and the parking lot has taken shape, the new bus loop is being cut in and the first of two underground stormwater detention systems has begun.

Construction began on July 5th and moving ahead rapidly to complete this major site reconstruction by the end of August for the opening of school. This is the view on July 13th, eight days into the project. Demolition of the entire site is complete, rough grading is nearly complete to establish subgrade for the parking lot. Stockpiles are growing daily!

It's been a while. The site project (along with separate roof, boiler and ceiling projects) were bid in May with the site bids coming in on June 1st. Richards Corporation from Terryville,was awarded the bid and will be mobilizing to the site to begin work on Jul 5th. Shop drawing submittals have been flooding in for review so they can order materials to build this project in a very short summer window.

We received unanimous approval from the Planning & Zoning Commission after a public hearing on Tuesday, May 10th. The project is now out to bid with a pre-bid site meeting on May 18th and bids due June 1st for construction this summer.

At last nights Inland Wetlands and Watercourses, LLA along with BVH (civil) presented the plans for site improvements at the school site. The plan was well received and the drainage report showed how we actually decreased volumes and peak flow while we increased impervious areas by 14 percent. After answering all their questions, the Commission voted unanimous approval with no conditions.
Next up is Planning & Zoning with a public hearing scheduled for May 10th. Then immediately out to bid for summer construction.
Pond House at Elizabeth Park
We appeared before the Executive Committee of the Elizabeth Park Conservancy in March to present plans for an outdoor entertainment area adjacent to the new terrace installed in 2014 overlooking the pond. Overall, the concept was well received. We discussed several items in detail, including the need for a storage building for the outdoor game pieces and the pros and cons of synthetic turf vs. natural turf.

Plans were submitted to the Inland Wetlands and Watercourses Commission and the Planning & Zoning Commission for approvals. We appear before IWWC on Tuesday, April 19th. P&Z has accepted the application and will hold a Public Hearing on April 26th.
